As we all know, extended reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning and it's also used to deeply explore the theme of the unit, the input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in this unit.
School life in the UK is the extended reading part of the first unit, maybe students never read an article like this. Since they have been studying for many years,the students have known something about school life in China, while they may know a little about the school life in the UK. They must be interested in knowing the differences and similarities. As for the senior one students, they have a certain ability to read but they lack vocabulary.Besides, they don't often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. To solve these problems, I'll apply the following teaching methods in my teaching.
1.Question-and-answer activity teaching method to lead students to think and find the answers by their own.
2. Free discussion method to give students chances to discuss and express.
3.Communicative approach to use English in the class as much as possible.
4.Task-based language teaching method to offer the students opportunities to complete the tasks in which students use language to achieve a specific outcome.
From this learning part, students are expected to deeply explore the theme of the unit and acquire new understanding of school life.
By the end of the class, the students will be able to:
1. learn about what school life is like in the UK;
2. have a better understanding of the differences between shcool life in the UK and in China ;
3. have a better understanding of the structure of the passage.
4. apply what's been learnt and write a narration about their dream school.
5. assess students' own work with the guidence of checklists.
6. increase students' cultural confidence.
