The topic of B1U3 is Getting along with others, which focuses on friendship in particular. The students are asked to talk about the problems related to it. From their own experiences, the students understand what is a real friend and what can be a real friend. The task of Integrated skills is to describe the qualities of a good friend and then write a diary entry about what makes s good friend.
The students involved in this class are from Senior 1. Friendship is a topic that they are quite familiar with and that they always experience in their daily life. They must have a lot to talk about. However, because of the limited words and expressions, they can’t organize their way of wording, and lack ways to improve their expressions and write excellent articles. This class aims to help them vary their expressions related to the qualities of a good friend.
By the end of the class, the students will be able to:
1. accumulate various expressions related to the qualities of a good friend;
2. apply what they have learned to the diary entry writing;
3. value the true friendship and treasure the friends around them.

Teaching procedures
Step I Opening remarks(开场白)
Four students are chosen to be the hosts and hostesses of the sharing session.
1. The host group will introduce themselves first and warm up the audience.
2. The audience will appreciate a clip about a famous Chinese poem Parting by Wang Wei.

Step III Discussion and sharing
The host and the hostess will guide the audience to have a discussion about how to describe the qualities of a good friend by using adjectives, verbs/verb phrases and attributive clauses.

You are asked to works in groups and share your opinions about what makes a good friend by using different ways of presentation, such as a sharing session(分享会), an interview, a scene play(情景剧), etc. Try to use diverse expressions to express your thoughts.
