Teaching procedures
Step One: Lead-in
The teacher shows a video and raises a question: What is a good friend to you? And asks some students for answers one by one.
Possible answers: Friends are those who share happiness and sorrow with me / spend a lot of time with me / help me when I am in trouble / lift me up when I feel blue
Step Two: Pre-reading
Discussion:
1.Do you think there are “friends for life”?
2.What will challenge a friendship?
Possible answers: disrespect, dishonesty, distance, misunderstanding, jealousy, bad jokes
Then reach a conclusion: Their friendship is on the rocks.
3. Who will you turn to for help when our friendship is on the rocks?
Possible answers: parents, classmates, siblings…, then maybe forum exchange
Step Three: Reading
1. Read the forum exchange and figure out Amy’s problem.
Saturday morning: Amy’s friend said she was ill and might not be able to make it to the cinema.
